One of the many amazing things that I love about living in New York City is the endless list of restaurant options. It can be overwhelming for an avid home cook, because while I enjoy staying home and cooking, I also thoroughly enjoy discovering new restaurants and dining out. Often when it comes to choosing between cooking something at home, and going out to eat, I’ll choose the latter. While this significantly depletes my wallet, it contributes heavily to my recipe catalogue. I love sourcing recipes from restaurants that I visit, and whenever I am feeling a lull in creativity in the kitchen, I look to some of my favorite restaurants and dishes for inspiration. Panzanella Salad with Heirloom Tomatoes and Bocconcini
I realized that I haven’t been writing nearly enough about my summer CSA and I need to immediately change that. My kitchen has been overflowing with ripe, local, and absolutely delicious produce all summer long, and it’s been glorious. I think it’s about time I share some more recipes with you! You might remember the kohlrabi and summer squash fritters I made at the start of the summer, which included some main ingredients from my CSA. But I’ve been chopping and cooking so much more than that – I unfortunately just haven’t been the best at documenting the process with pictures! This week I vowed to change that, especially now that we’re starting to receive mouthwatering, sweet heirloom tomatoes in the crop. Continue reading
Kohlrabi and Summer Squash Fritters with Yogurt-Dill Sauce

Kohlrabi and Summer Squash Fritters with Yogurt Dill Sauce
I have made it my mission to cook as many healthy, locally sourced and seasonal recipes as possible this summer. Not just because it’s summer and I have to be seen in a bathing suit in a week (eek!), but mostly because when I eat well, I feel well, and that is really the most important thing to me when it comes to my diet eating habits. I hate using the word diet because I really don’t believe in them. I feel that by restricting the foods I eat I often crave them more, leading to binge eating which is never, ever a good look. I am quite petite, so I do have to eat less than other non-vertically challenged people, but watching what I eat is far different from restricting what I eat. As you can see on this here blog, I do have a pretty strong sweet tooth, which I used to always try to deny. But I found when I didn’t have that cookie, I’d wind up eating 10 later in the week, and that just wasn’t working. When I allow myself to eat smaller portions of things I like, and truly enjoy them without feeling the guilt, then the cravings disappear and it turns into a lifestyle of conscience eating, rather than endless weeks of diets that fall short. Kale Salad with Ricotta Salata and Creamy Avocado Dressing
A few weeks ago, my boyfriend, Jordan, and I took a much needed long weekend away from the city. I love everything about living in NYC… the energy, the skyline, the food (obviously), the endless list of things to do at any given hour of the day… but let me tell you, it can get to be a lot. The noise, the crowds, the inconvenience of having to be anywhere on time, it can be unbearable sometimes. If you live in NYC you will absolutely know what I’m talking about. If you don’t then it’s hard to put into words…it can sort of feel like this. Especially after this wretched winter, when everyone was surly and miserable because the weather was so incredibly oppressing, we were just over it and needed a weekend away. So we booked a long weekend at a small lake house in the Berkshires. Just Jordan, our dog Brody and myself. Continue reading
Spicy Butternut Squash Salad with Lentils and Goat Cheese
Eating healthy can be really hard in winter. It’s been so cold and there’s nothing like good-old comfort food to keep you warm. Sometimes eating a regular old salad for dinner just won’t do, and you find yourself pining for something more satisfying that will make you forget about the snow that won’t stop falling. But is it possible to stay on track and still feel completely satisfied with weeknight comfort food? With this recipe, I say absolutely. Continue reading
Israeli Couscous Salad with Fresh Herbs
I had every intention of upping my game here during the holidays and posting all the recipes that I made over the past few weeks. Recipe after recipe of cookies perfect for easy holiday baking. Gratins and salads that make the best side dishes for Christmas dinner. And a recipe for the very best scalloped potatoes. But alas, Christmas was a whirlwind of eating, drinking, laughing and reminiscing with loved ones, and as a result, I severely neglected my blog. Though, despite my neglect, I now have a backlog of recipes to keep you updated in the new year. And even better, thanks to my very considerate boyfriend, I got an amazing camera for Christmas, so visuals will be so much better than previous pictures taken with my shabby iPhone. Continue reading
Sautéed Peaches with Microgreens and Burrata cheese
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of dining with my family at Roberta’s restaurant in Bushwick. Maybe because it’s in Bushwick, an “up and coming” neighborhood in Brooklyn, or maybe because a large majority of its clientele wears skinny jeans and thick rimmed glasses, Roberta’s has a reputation of being sort of a “hipster-haven.” If you’re not sure of what a hipster is, or have never come across one in the wild, then (1) I applaud you, and (2) feel free to read up on them here. One of my mom’s favorite activities whenever she comes to Brooklyn is to play “Hipster Spotting.” Let me tell you, she had a field day at Roberta’s. If you’d also like to play, it’s pretty easy. In short, if you spot someone that falls into any of the following categories, chances are you probably “spotted a hipster”. And no, these hipsters don’t count. Continue reading
Fish Tacos with Mango Salsa and 4 Bean Salad
I haven’t been able to take a family vacation in well over five years, so I immediately jumped at the chance to spend a whole week on Cape Cod with my mom, dad, sister, uncle and younger cousins. We spend our mornings on the picturesque deck overlooking the salt marsh, drinking coffee, reading the paper and enjoying the “happy chicken” eggs my mom brings from Bucks County. Continue reading
Potato and Lobster Salad
I have been lucky enough to spend almost every summer of my life on Cape Cod. My Grandparents owned a house in Falmouth, MA, and my sister and I spent our summers splashing in the bay, hunting for hermit crabs and enjoying the beautiful sunsets on our deck overlooking Sippewissett Marsh. Continue reading
